Breaking News: Hun Sen Warns of Possible Thai Military Strike, Cancels Senate Meeting Tomorrow

Phnom Penh, August 3, 2025 — Former Cambodian Prime Minister and Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has issued a serious warning on his social media channels regarding heightened tensions along the border with Thailand. Citing an earlier statement from the Ministry of National Defense spokesperson, Samdech Techo Hun Sen indicated that there is a significant possibility that the Thai military may initiate a military attack on Cambodia tonight.

In response to the escalating situation, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced he will be unable to preside over the scheduled Senate meeting tomorrow morning, August 4, regardless of whether fighting occurs. He stated that he will remain in command of the national armed forces around the clock to safeguard national security.

As a result, the Senate meeting will now be chaired by His Excellency Uch Borith, the First Vice President of the Senate. Techo Hun Sen urged the public and colleagues to understand that his full attention is currently on national defense and the ongoing situation.

In a personal note, Techo Hun Sen also acknowledged that he may not be able to respond to birthday messages scheduled for August 5, 2025, due to his busy schedule concerning matters of national peace and security. He emphasized that his focus remains on protecting the sovereignty and stability of Cambodia amid this critical period.
